INDIAN EQUITY MARKET KNOCK DOWN FOR THE SECOND SESSION

Domestic Equity Market showed a negative sign on the back of weak macroeconomic data (dip in IIP, rise in inflation) and resurgence in Covid-19 infections. Besides, elevated crude prices and jump in bond yields also weighed on sentiment. Net selling of FII/FPI was at Rs.1,101.35 crore while net selling of DII was at Rs.749.71 crore. The Sensex ended 397.00 points, or 0.78 percent lower at 50,395.08 with shares of Tech Mahindra, Powergrid, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech, NTPC, SBI, Titan ,Nestle India were having gains of 2.22%,1.86%,1.51%,1.24%, 1.14%, 0.66%, 0.62%, 0.39% respectively while shares of Bajaj Finserve, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, L & T, Asian Paints, Dr. Reddy, ICICI Bank were having loss of 2.68%,2.21%, 2.09%, 1.99%, 1.92%, 1.91%,1.57% respectively. The Nifty declined 101.45 points or 0.67 percent to close at 14,929.50 with Indexes like Metal, IT, Energy Indexes were having gains of 1.04%, 0.56%, 0.02% respectively while Media, Pharma, Bank, Auto, Realty, FMCG Indexes were having loss of 1.44%, 1.31%, 0.88%, 0.47%, 0.40%, 0.03% respectively.

Tech Mahindra surged over 2% as the company approved a proposal to acquire a majority stake in Périgord Asset Holdings Ltd.

Powergrid jumped nearly 2% as the corporation signed an agreement with Manipur State Power Corporation Limited for Operation and Maintenance of four 400 kV Thoubal ckt I & II bays at POWERGRID 400 kV Imphal Sub-station for a period of three years w.e.f. 1st April 2021.

NTPC rose over half percent as India’s largest power generation company is expected to commission a 100-megawatt floating solar power project in the southern state of Telangana.
