RUPEE SETTLES ON NEGATIVE NOTE, LOWER BY 22 PAISE AT 73.25 AGAINST THE US DOLLAR

Rupee appreciated against EUR and CNY while depreciated against USD, GBP, JPY. The rupee on Monday closed down by 22 paise at 73.25 against the US dollar as rising crude oil prices and strengthening of the American currency in the overseas market weighed on investor sentiment. Crude oil prices increased after Saudi Arabia said its oil facility was attacked by drone. Further, OPEC and its allies had agreed to keep most of their production cuts in place.USD/INR witnessed an intra-day low and high of 72.92 and 73.29 respectively.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 35.75 points or 0.07 per cent higher at 50441.07, while the broader NSE Nifty climbed 18.10 points or 0.12 per cent to 14956.20.

The US dollar rose against most major currencies. The Euro fell to 1.1867 from 1.1915 against dollar. The Australian dollar fell to $0.7653 from $0.7682. GBP and JPY were also traded down against USD on Today.
