RUPEE SLUMPS 17 PAISE AT 73.02 AGAINST US DOLLAR

Rupee appreciated against most of the currencies except USD . The Rupee opened with a negative note at 72.97, down by 13 paise against US dollar and settled at 73.02, registering a decline of 17 paise over its previous closing. US Dollar gained strength amid surge in bond yields. US treasury yields jumped on expectation that rollout of COVID-19 vaccines and government stimulus efforts will accelerate economic growth and inflation. Besides this, rising crude oil prices also impact on Rupee. USD/INR witnessed an intra-day low and high of 72.73 and 73.09 respectively.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 440.76 points or 0.87 per cent lower at 50405.32, while the broader NSE Nifty declined 142.65 points or 0.95 per cent to 14938.10.

The US dollar rose against most major currencies. The Euro fell to 1.1928 from 1.1994 against dollar. The Australian dollar fell to $0.7661 from $0.7745. GBP and JPY were also traded down against USD on Today.
