RUPEE APPRECIATES OVER 3% AGAINST DOLLAR

Indian rupee appreciated against major currencies. Rupee opened 16 paise lower at 73.55 against US dollar, witnessed an intra-day high of 73.05 and a low of 73.60. The rupee closed higher by 27 paise at 73.11 against the US dollar on Wednesday and ended the fiscal on a strong note with a gain of over 3 per cent despite coronavirus-induced disruptions on the economic front.

The Indian currency markets will be closed on Thursday and Friday for annual bank closing and Good Friday holiday respectively.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 627.43 points or 1.25 per cent lower at 49,509.15, while the broader NSE Nifty declined 154.40 points or 1.04 per cent to 14,690.70.

EUR/ USD was up 0.04% to 1.1723. USD/JPY was up by 0.46% to 110.80. GBP/USD up by 0.31% to 1.3762.
