RUPEE DECLINES TO 73.18 AGAINST DOLLAR EVEN AMID MARKET GAINS

The rupee depreciated against virtually every currency in the market except GBP. The rupee depreciated by 16 paise to settle at 73.18 against the US dollar on Tuesday even as the domestic equity markets settled with significant gains. However, sustained foreign fund inflows and weakness of the American currency in the overseas market restricted the rupee’s fall. The rupee opened at 72.15 against the US dollar and witnessed an intra-day high of 73.27 and a low of 72.08.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 260.98 points or 0.54 percent higher at 48437.78, while the broader NSE Nifty advanced 66.60 points or 0.47 percent to 14199.50.

US dollar has also depreciated against every currency in the market except INR. USD traded down against GBP, EUR, JPY, AUD, CAD, SGD etc.
