RUPEE RISES 10 PAISE TO 72.94 AGAINST US DOLLAR

Rupee appreciated against most of the currency in the basket except GBP. The rupee started the day with positive note against US dollar, registering gains of 4 paise over its previous close. The Rupee hit an intra-day high 72.90 and a low of 73.02 against US dollar. It finally finished at 72.94, higher by 10 paise over its last close even as the domestic equity markets closed with significant losses.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 588.59 points or 1.26 per cent lower at 46,285.77, while the broader NSE Nifty declined 182.95 points or 1.32 per cent to 13,634.60.

US dollar depreciated against most of the currency in the basket. USD traded down against INR, EUR, GBP, CAD, SGD etc.
