RUPEE CLOSED AT MORE THAN FOUR-MONTH HIGH AGAINST THE US DOLLAR

Rupee appreciated against most of the currency in the basket. The Indian rupee strengthened on Thursday to close at more than four-month high against the US dollar tracking domestic equities. The rupee opened higher at 72.95 and touched the day's high of 72.92 against US dollar. It finally closed higher by 5 paise at 72.98 to the dollar, a level not seen since September 1, 2020.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex declined 167.36 points or 0.34 per cent to end at 49,624.76; while the NSE Nifty slipped 54.35 points or 0.37 per cent at 14,590.35.

US dollar depreciated against all of the currency in the basket. USD traded weak against INR, JPY, GBP, EUR, CAD, SGD, AUD, ZAR etc.
