RUPEE GAINS 8 PAISE TO CLOSE AT 72.89 AGAINST US DOLLAR

Rupee depreciated against most of the currency in the basket except USD, CNY. The rupee closed 8 paise higher at 72.89 against the US dollar on Tuesday. Rupee During the session, the unit touched a high of 72.84. However, surging crude prices and subdued domestic equity market hit the rupee sentiment and restricted the gain.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 19.69 points or 0.04 per cent lower at 51,329.08, while the broader NSE Nifty slipped 6.50 points or 0.04 per cent to 15,109.30.

USD depreciated against most of the currency in the basket. USD traded down against EUR, GBP, JPY,AUD, CAD, SGD etc.
