RUPEE GAINS 8 PAISE TO FINISH AT 72.96 AGAINST US DOLLAR

Rupee appreciated against most of the currency in the basket except CNY. The rupee started the day with positive note against US dollar, appreciated by 3 paise to 73.01 per US dollar. It finally finished at 72.96, higher by 8 paise over its last close. The Rupee hit an intra-day high 72.92 and a low of 73.06 against US dollar.

On the domestic equity market front, the BSE Sensex ended 1,197.11 points or 2.46 per cent higher at 49,797.72, while the broader NSE Nifty advanced 366.25 points or 2.57 per cent to 14,647.85.

US dollar traded mixed. USD appreciated against EUR, JPY, GBP, SGD etc.
