INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARK INDICES ENDED THE LAST DAY OF THE YEAR WITH FLAT NOTES

Domestic Equity Market ended flat on the last day of the December F&O expiry series. Gains in metals, pharma, realty and auto stocks were countered by selling pressure in FMCG, PSU Banks and financial stocks. The Sensex ended at 47,751.33 levels, up 5.11 points or 0.01%, after hitting the 14,000-mark for the first time with shares of HDFC ,Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints, Titan, Infosys ,Dr Reddy gained by 1.65%, 1.41%, 1.20%, 1.13%, 0.93%, 0.77%, 0.63% respectively while shares of TCS, Ultratech Cement, Bharti Airtel, Kotak Bank, Tech Mahindra, ITC were the losers with a loss of 1.33%, 1.33%, 1.29%, 1.19%, 1.00%, 0.99% respectively. The Nifty settled at 13,981.75, down 0.20 points with Realty, Media, Metal, Pharma Indexes were having gains of 1.23%, 0.98%, 0.74%, 0.72% respectively while FMCG,IT,Energy,Bank Indexes were the losers with a loss of 0.40%, 0.32%, 0.15%, 0.12% respectively.

Sun Pharma rose nearly 1.50% as the confidence in growth prospects is increasing with the company’s specialty product range in the US shaping.

ICICI Bank gained over 1% on expectation of higher growth going forward.ICICI Bank has made adequate investments in digital platforms, leading to virtually no outages - unlike its large peers that have recently faced regulatory ire - and better customer wallet share/profitability.

Bharti Airtel lose over 1% after Reliance Jio Infocomm said it will make domestic calls free from January 1 when interconnect usage charges (IUC) on such services end.
