WEEKLY CURRENCY MARKET 20th - 24th MAY 2019

During the week, the rupee appreciated 64 paise or 0.91 per cent against US dollar. Last week, the rupee depreciated 31 paise or 0.44 per cent against US dollar. On Monday, Rupee climbed 49 paise up against the dollar after exit polls suggested the election will give a clear mandate for the ruling party led coalition. Rupeegained 1 paise on Tuesday on fresh foreign funds inflows amid exit poll predictions of a clear majority for the NDA. Rupee opened 5 paise higher at 69.68 on Wednesday and Closed 6 paise higher at 69.67 as against the dollar amid easing crude oil prices. Rupee opened 22 paise higher at 69.45 on Thursday and closed 8 paise higher against the dollar at 69.59 as decline in crude oil prices. Rupee and bonds rallied as early vote counting in general elections showed the ruling National Democratic Alliance with Narendra Modi at the helm winning a second term.
