Rupee opened 22 paise higher at 69.45 on Thursday as against the US dollar, after settling at 69.67 on Wednesday. The rupee was closed 8 paise higher against the dollar at 69.59 as decline in crude oil prices. Rupee and bonds rallied as early vote counting in general elections showed the ruling National Democratic Alliance with Narendra Modi at the helm winning a second term. USD/INR touched intraday low of 69.37 and high of 69.61. Meanwhile, Sensex ended at 38811.39, down 298.82 points, or 0.76 per cent, while Nifty closed with a loss of 80.85 points, or 0.69 per cent, to close at 11657.05. The RBI set a reference exchange rate for dollar at 69.75.

The Indian currency (INR) was trading 19 paise higher at 77.58 as against Euro. The currency pair EUR/INR opened at 77.58, which was previously close at 77.78. Meanwhile, the RBI set a reference exchange rate for Euro at 77.81. The Currency pair GBP/INR and JPY/INR were trading at 88.00 and 0.63 respectively. The RBI set a reference exchange rate for 1 pound sterling at 88.59, while for 100 JPY at 63.17 . The other currency pairs ZAR/INR, MYR/INR, SAR/INR and AED/INR were trading at 4.82, 16.70, 18.64 and 19.04 subsequently.

The USD/JPY was trading at 110.28. The currency pair EUR/USD was trading at 1.11. The paired currency EUR/JPY was trading at 122.37. Elsewhere, the currency pair GBP/USD was trading at 1.26. The other currencies pairs AUD/USD, NZD/USD, MYR/USD and SAR/USD were trading at 0.69, 0.65, 0.24 and 0.27 respectively.
