WEEKLY COMMODITY UPDATE: MCXCOMDEX DOWN;AGRI INDEX DECLINE 2.59 %

Total turnover stood at Rs. 17265128 lakh in various futures & option contracts for commodities listed at MCX during the week 19th to 23rd Aug 2019. MCX Comdex started the week on flat note and ended at 3861.73 with a decline of 0.07% over previous Friday’s — the index comprising energy, metals and agri items . The Metal index closed at 5906.85, up 0.93%, while the Agri index was down 2.59% at 2913.13 and Energy index down by 0.83% at 2677.1.

Cardamom stood as the top loser of this week, lose 12.40% while Precious metals were performed well.

Metals Index gained nearly 1 % during this week. In Base Metals, Aluminium Aug contract registered a loss of 1.81% , closed at 138.35 per kg on Friday as against Rs. 140.9 per kg on previous Friday’s while Copper Aug future registered a weekly loss of 1.33 % at Rs. 440.05 per kg on Friday and Lead Aug future closed at Rs. 153.55 per kg on Friday, registered a weekly gain of 0.20 % over previous Friday’s. Zinc Aug futures lose by 0.98 % at Rs. 181.75 per kg. Nickel Aug future registered a weekly loss of 1.98 % at Rs. 1116 per kg on Friday as against Rs. 1138.6 per kg on previous Friday’s close.

In the bullion segment, gold contracts recorded a turnover of Rs 3300638 Lakh, Gold Oct future up by 2.18% at Rs 38765 per 10 grams. Gold prices recorded new highs in this week due to weaker rupee and safe haven buying from investors due to weak equity market. Silver Sep future gained by 1.78 % at Rs 44602 per kg. In the Energy segment, Crude oil for Sep closed at Rs 3863 per BBL on Friday , down 1.20% over previous Friday’s while Natural Gas for Aug closed at Rs 154.6 per mmBtu, down 1.09%.

Agri index witnessed a decline of 2.59% during this week. Cardamom Sep future lose 12.40% at Rs. 3016.2 per kg on Friday against Rs. 3443 per kg previous Friday’s while Mentha oil Aug futures gained 3.76% at Rs. 1299.6 per kg and CPO Aug future gained by 1.26 % at Rs. 555.8 per 10 kg. Cotton Aug closed at Rs. 20950 per bales on Friday, registered weekly gain of 0.82% over previous Friday’s.
